500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note The study documented seventeen (17) certified organic farms and their spatial attributes in the different sites of three municipalities in Nueva Vizcaya.

Sta. Fe, Kayapa, and Bayombong were among the areas covered. The farms were geotagged to provide metadata for generating GIS-based maps for the organic farms.
The study collected information from identified respondents through coordination with the local government units of the municipality and referral from previous farmer contacts. A researcher guided questionnaire was used to gather the needed information by actual site visit, interview of respondents, and on-site validation of information. The study was conducted from June to August 2023. The general objective was to profile the certified organic farms, farmers and practices in Nueva Vizcaya.

Results on the profiling of farms showed that majority of the organic farms were located in the municipality of Kayapa. The observed topography ranged from hilly to mountainous, with slopes primarily between 18-30% and 30-50% respectively. Farm altitudes started from 314 masl to generally 1,000 masl up to 1533 masl. Generally, farms were closed to conventional farms or residential areas hence buffer zones were initiated to prevent or avoid contamination. The described farm practices included mixed cropping. Crop rotation, and a fallow period. The majority of farmers used their own plant-based pesticide mixtures and fertilizers, however, some opted to buy organic fertilizers for ease.

Coordinates from geotagging generated maps using geographical information system software provided useful information on the location of farms, characteristic of the farm, crops grown in the production site, and cultural practices. The information produced were essential specifically for future support in promoting organic farming and the continuing production of organic crops
