500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note Proper irrigation management is critical to optimize yield while increasing the efficiency of irrigation water. Several studies conducted for a wide range environment have demonstrated that soybean yield increase with irrigation (Gercek et al., 2009). Thus, this study was conducted to enhance the growth and yield of soybean using drip irrigation system and determine the effect of different irrigation management on growth and yield of the crop.

The study was conducted under Pangasinan condition for four months. Irrigation was scheduled based on different moisture allowable depletion (MAD) levels set at 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% soil available water. Electrical resistance type sensor was used in determining the irrigation timing and refill point of the study.
The result of the treatments with different MAD levels was also compared with the result obtained from the farmer's practice and rainfed treatments. In order to conserve water, the moisture allowed depletion (MAD) levels were set at 80% during the germination stage and the vegetative stage. While at reproductive stage was 20% MAD to sustain growth and good performance of the plant. The total water requirement in each phenological stages of the soybean were 1.5 cm for germination stage, 5.3 cm for vegetative stage and 24.4 cm for reproductive stage to pod fill to harvest.

Total yield of soybean ranged from 1222 kg/ha (Treatment 6) to 1958 kg/ha (Treatment 1). Yield of soybean affected by different treatment using drip irrigation system resulted significantly greater yield of 1,625-1,958 kg/ha than farmer's practice and rainfed yield which is 1,458 kg/ha and 1,222 kg/ha.

Keywords: drip irrigation system, Moisture Allowable Depletion, phenological stages
