| General note | This study assessed the commitment of the BS Tourism students of the Nueva Vizcaya State University in working in the tourism industry with the use of a adapted survey questionnaire from the study of Kuzluvan et al (2020). Three dimensions consist of the dependent variable which were nature of work, social status, and commitment to work. Respondents' profiles were also sought. Hence, test of differences was carried out to determine significant results when respondents were grouped according to profile variables and compared to the three dimensions. This study was conducted last November 2023. There were 151 respondents randomly selected from the list provided by the university registrar. Students were informed and participation was voluntary. Majority of the students belonged to the Gen Z, typical of college students. Females dominate the respondents and most of them were freshmen students who belonged to lower middle-class family based on their parents monthly income. The majority belonged to a small size household who were primarily Ilocano. Overall, in terms of their perception the respondents were convinced to work and see their possible future in working in the tourism industry. Social status drives them to pursue the tourism course while at the same time we're keen to work at the industry as they have the passion and are committed to pursue working as tourism professionals. But most of them were uncertain of their employability and confidence as it is affected by biases about tourism professionals and unjust work ethics which cram in the industry. Social status or prestige affects the students mindset in working in the tourism industry. It also affects their commitment especially in the formative years and even in their senior years.<br/><br/>Keywords: Perception of Undergraduate Tourism Students, Tourism Industry<br/> |
