| General note | The study was conducted to determine the lung lesion score of pigs presented at slaughter in Solano Municipal Abattoir In addition, this was conducted to find out the prevalence of pneumonia in slaughter pigs. Random sampling was used to gather the 30 samples from the 84 slaughtered pigs. The scoring used was based on the scheme point used by Ostanello et al (2007) wherein the individual lung lobes were first scored from 0 10 4.<br/><br/>The results revealed that respiratory diseases resulting to lung lesions are prevalent in the slaughter pig in the abattoir Majority of the swine lungs exhibited lung lesions with 63.33% of them having lesions. The lung lesion scores of the samples ranged from 0 to 16. Notably. 36.7% of the samples have no lung lesion.<br/><br/>The results per lobe revealed that among the seven lobes, right caudal lobe had the highest frequency of pneumonic lobes with 19 (63.3%) lobes out of 30. On the other hand, the left cranial lobe appeared to have the least number of pneumonic lobes with 12 (40%) lobes affected with lesions. The right cranial lobe had 16 (53.3%) lobes with lesion The lesion scores ranged from 0 to 4. Nine (30%) lobes out of 30 lung samples displayed lesions affecting less than 25% of the lobe surface. On the other hand, there is 1 (33%) tight cranial lobe that scored the maximum point of 4 by having lesions affecting more than 75% of the lobe surfaceThe right middle lobe also had 16 (53.3%) lobes out of 30 lung samples with leston The lesion scores ranged from 0 to 4. Eight of them were scored with I for having lesions affecting less than 25% of the lobe surface One lobe was scored with the hughest score of 4 The accessory lobe had 14 (46.6%) lobes out of 30 lung samples with lesion The lesion scores ranged from 0 to 3. Twelve (40.0%) out of 30 lobes had scores of 1 The right caudal lobe had 19 (63.3%) lobes out of 30 lung samples with lesion Thirteen (43.3%) of them were scored with 1. Five lobes were scored with 2 and one lobe was scored with the highest score of 3 The left cranial lobe had scores ranging from 0 to 2 Twelve (40%) left cramal lobes of the 30 lungs had lesions Specifically, 11 (36.7%) of them were scored with 1 while the remaining lobe was scored with 2 The left middle lobe had scores ranging from 0 to 3 There were 17 (56.7%) lobes out of 30 lung samples with lesions. The 12 (40%) lobes had lesion score of 1 while 2 (6.7%) lobes had lesion score of 3. The left caudal lobe had lesion scores ranging from 0 to 2. There were 17 (56.7%) left caudal lobes out of 30 lung samples with lesions. The 14 (46.7%) lobes had lesion score of 1 while the remaining 3(10%) lobes had lesion score of 2 The lesion scoring on the individual lung lobes showed that most of the lesions affected less than 25% of their surfaces.<br/> |
