500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note A field study was conducted at Miguel's family farm located at Purok 3, Maasin, Quezon, Nueva Vizcaya from December 2020 to February 2021. This study aimed to determine the field performance of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) varieties as influenced by applied rice hull ash (RHA), evaluate the single and combined effect of variety and RHA on the growth and yield of cucumber, identify the cucumber variety that would give better performance when applied with RHA; determine the most appropriate rate of RHA for best field performance of the test varieties, and determine the most appropriate variety and rate of RHA for optimum growth and yield of cucumber. The experiment was laid out in a 2 x 6 Split-Plot arranged in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The main factor treatment corresponded to cucumber varieties, Thunder Fi and McArthur Fi while rice hull ash (RHA) in different rates such as Otha RHA without IF, Otha RHA with IF, 2tha RHA with IF, 4t/ha with IF, 6t/ha RHA with IF, and 8t/ha RHA with IF was the subplot factor treatment.

On the growth components, McArthur F, had longer vine length and greater number of lateral vines than Thunder Fi However, both varieties had similar number of days to first flowering and number of days to first priming Furthermore, both varieties obtained comparable results in all other yield and yield components which include number of fruits per plant, weight per fruit, yield per plant, yield per plot and computed yield per hectare.

All measured variables were enhanced by the application of 8t/ha RHA with inorganic fertilizer. Increasing the rates of RHA up to this rate gave significant advantage to all parameters except for the days to first priming. The number of days to first priming recorded a comparable result when RHA rate was increased from 4t/ha to 8t/ha. For high cucumber yield, Thunder Fi and McArthur Fi should be applied with 8t/ha RHA as basal application added with inorganic fertilizer.
