| General note | In concrete mixtures, gravel occupies 75% of the concrete's volume and it contributes researchers use light color in gravels. Countries to the compressive strength of the structure. Gravel's color depends on its composition, researchers use the Munsell Color Chart to identify dark and light color in gravels. Countries like Iraq use light-colored gravels on road construction because of its availability. Somehow, dark-colored gravels were recommended by engineers in Jordan because it enhances the quality of f concrete. <br/><br/> In order to examine the strength of these types of gravels, the researchers come up with a study that will test the difference of compressive strength of light-colored gravel and dark-colored gravel when used in Class A concrete mixture using ASTM C39 (compressibility strength test) and ASTM C143 (slump test). Three (3) concrete cylinders on each type of gravel were made by a medium degree of workability mixture - result of slump test on concrete mixture on each type of gravel. The samples were tested using Universal Testing Machine (UTM) to obtain their compressive strength. Based on the results of ASTM C39, light-colored gravels have the highest mean compressive strength of 3.25 MPa, dark- colored gravels have a mean compressive strength of 3.12 MPa, and positive control has the least mean compressive strength of 3.07 MPa. Using Z-test as statistical tool, it was analyzed that compressive strength of light-colored gravel has no significant difference compared to dark-gravel and positive control.<br/> <br/> Additionally, dark-gravel has no significant difference compared to light-colored gravel and positive control. Based from these findings, site engineers may use any type of gravels on their concrete mixtures. <br/><br/>Keywords: Gravel, ASTM C39, ASTM C143.<br/> |
