| General note | This study was conducted to assess the Veterinary Extension Program in the Province of Ifugao.<br/><br/> The study was undertaken in the 11 municipalities of Ifugao. A total of 395 respondents were randomly chosen from the study sites. The study was conducted from March - December 2017.<br/><br/> A questionnaire was developed and administered to the respondents. The data were gathered through interview schedule, key informants and from secondary sources. The data were analyzed using descriptive inferential statistics. The 0.05 probability level was the critical point of reference for the analysis of data. Results were presented in the narrative reportorial method and portrayed in tabular forms.<br/><br/> The respondents of the study were mostly married, average age of 40 years old, mostly high school to college graduate with five household members. Mostly were self-employed with a monthly average income of PhP 10,188.61. Average number of years in raising livestock is 9.51 years, mostly of the backyard type. Most have at least availed veterinary services.<br/><br/> Most of the implemented veterinary services program were rated low to very low. Services were provided annually and mostly by the Municipal Agriculture Office. Strategies were field visit, communicate through cellphone, conduct of training and seminars, dissemination of information during barangay assembly and field demonstrations. The extent of coverage and access of the services were rated as moderate.<br/><br/> On adopted practices, vaccinations were undertaken based on recommended program. Deworming were undertaken with some modifications from that of the recommended program. Treatments were undertaken by owners for minor ailment but seek assistance for severe ailments and castration. First breeding is done at the recommended age. Breeders are selected based on physical appearance and performance of parents. System of breeding are inbreeding and cross breeding. The mating system is by natural method. Feeding practices is the use of commercial feeds and or combined with indigenous feeds. Animal housing is mostly provided for different stages of production which is made of a combination of sturdy and light materials.<br/><br/> The increase frequency and access of the veterinary services extension program positively correlated to the adoption of recommended practices.<br/><br/> Problems identified were lack of diagnostic capabilities, meager budget, limited personnel, mobility and policy support.<br/><br/> Based on results, recommendations were formulated to improve delivery and sustainability of the veterinary services extension programs in the Province of Ifugao.<br/> |
