This study determined the academic performance of Grade II pupils using Iloko as medium of instruction in Kasibu East and West District, Division of Nueva Vizcaya.
Descriptive inferential research was utilized in the study. Fourteen public elementary schools, 192 pupils and 15 Grade II teachers were the sources of data and respondents of the study. Data were gathered using questionnaire, interview guide and survey guide. Questionnaire was used to collect the data on pupils' and teachers' profile like sex, place of origin, dialect spoken at home, ethnicity, years in service, teaching position, and educational attainment. Survey guide was used to collect data on the pupil’s academic performance particularly on the subjects using Iloko such as Mathematics, Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP), Araling Panlipunan (AP), Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) and on the pupils' profile like sex, place of origin, dialect spoken at home, and ethnicity. Informal interview guide was used to collect data on the problems encountered by the pupils and teachers in using floko as medium of instruction, the solutions to the problems encountered in teaching using Iloko and the teachers' suggestions to overcome the problem in using Iloko as medium of instruction.
Frequency and percentage were used to treat the profile of the pupils. Mean was used for the level of academic performance of the respondents in using Iloko subjects like Math, ESP, Araling Panlipunan, Mother Tongue Based-Multi Lingual Education (MTB-MLE) and MAPEH. Rank was used to treat the problems encountered by the pupils and teachers in using lloko, the solutions made by the teachers too in using Iloko and the teachers' suggestions to overcome the problems in using Iloko. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the relationship between the pupils' profile and the pupils' academic performance.
The specific components of pupils and teachers’ profile such as teacher's position, length of teacher's teaching service, teacher's sex, pupil's ethnicity, and pupil's sex significantly influenced the academic performance of the pupils using loko. Mother Tongue-Based Multi Lingual Education (MTB-MLE) significantly influenced the academic performance of the pupils particularly in Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao.
