The education sector implemented flexible learning to address the challenges posed by the CoViD-19 pandemic. Flexible learning is a set of educational theories and approaches aimed at giving students more options, comfort, and customization to meet their needs. As a result, the goal of this study was to evaluate the use of flexible learning and the career prospects of Nueva Vizcaya State University Tourist Management graduating students.
The purpose of this study was to determine the demographic profile of BSTM graduating students, as well as their perceptions of the effectiveness of flexible learning implementation, career outlooks, and prospective career choices. Additionally, the significant differences between variables were investigated. A descriptive-inferential research design was used in the study. A three-part survey questionnaire was distributed to the 70 BSTM graduating students. The collected data was then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that the 70 student respondents are mostly in their early twenties and females. When asked how many devices they used for online studies, nearly four out of ten respondents said they only have their phones. Finally, when it comes to internet access, respondents primarily use mobile data. Furthermore, the overall perception of flexible learning by student respondents is positive. This merely demonstrates that the student-respondents were on the right side of the pandemic. Despite the pandemic's challenges, flexible learning provided a positive learning environment. Overall, the student-respondents have a positive career outlook. First and foremost, they believe that the pandemic will have a negative impact on careers in the hospitality and tourism industries. Prior to and during the pandemic, they had already decided and acted in the same manner in pursuing a career in the tourism sector. They have faith in the academic institution's educational system, which has assisted them in flexible learning, and help them pursue their preferred tourism career. Finally, given their positive career outlook, student respondents are confident that they will be fully prepared for the tourism industry in 2023.
In terms of career choices, the student-respondents were given 14 different career options. The student respondents preferred career path would most likely be that of a restaurant steward. It received the most votes from student respondents as their top choice. Their second most desired career path was front office manager. Event planner was the third most popular career choice.
It was also found that when students were grouped according to their age, there was a significant difference in their perceptions of the effects of flexible learning in terms of the ability of the students. It was found that older respondents exhibit a more positive effect of flexible learning on their ability compared to their younger counterparts. However, student-respondents have nearly equal career prospects regardless of demographic variable.
