Acaricidal efficacy of tanglad ((cymbopogon citratus linn.) leaf extract against adult brown dog tick (rhipicephalus sanguineus) in -vistro/ Klayd Marxis P.

The study was conducted at the Animal Clinic-Diagnostic Laboratory, Department of Veterinary Medicine, College of Agriculture, Nueva Vizcaya from October 2011 to February 2012.
A total of 180 ticks were used in the study wherein 10 ticks were used for each treatment. There were six treatments, each treatment was replicated thrice as follows: T1-sevin (positive control), T2-25% TLE, T3-50% TLE, T4-75% TLE, T5-100% TLE, T6-water (negative control).
The study shows that 100% Tanglad leaf extract is effective against brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineous) at 70% mortality although the positive control carbryl (sevin) is more effective compared to tanglad leaf extract at 100% mortality after 90 minutes of exposure.
It is recommended that researchers should try other ways extracting tanglad, determine the mode of action against brown dog tick and establish the active component responsible for its mode of action. Performing in-vivo study ill also help to differentiate the effect of tanglad leaf extract against ticks compared to in-vivo.
