The research study focuses on geospatially analyzing land cover changes in the municipality of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. The objective is to assess the land cover changes between 2010 and 2020, determine the classifications of land cover, and identify the factors influencing these changes. The study employed a qualitative-quantitative approach to address its objectives. Data was collected from the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) of Nueva Vizcaya to determine land cover classifications and changes in Bayombong from 2010 to 2015 and 2015 to 2020. A survey questionnaire was used with non-probability sampling to identify factors influencing land cover changes, targeting 100 respondents from various sectors including local stakeholders and government offices. GIS tools and Excel software were utilized for data preprocessing. classification, mapping, geospatial analysis, data analysis and presentation.
The study found significant changes in land cover over the studied period. Annual crop emerged as the dominant land cover, while fishpond became the smallest category. Factors such as population growth, urbanization, infrastructure development, agricultural expansion, and policy implementation were identified as drivers of these changes. It also highlighted the awareness of respondents regarding land cover changes. The study recommends further research with a larger dataset, incorporating socio-economic data, and conducting comparative analyses for a better understanding. By analyzing the dynamics of land cover in Bayombong, this study aims to provide valuable insights for environmental management and urban planning, aiding in informed decision-making and promoting sustainable land use practices in the region.
