This study determined the efficacy of Tuba (Croton tiglium) seeds on the gastrointestinal parasites of free-range native chickens (Gallus domestics) and Muscovy duck (Cairinia mascbata). Specifically, the study established the lethal concentration (LC30) of Croton tiglium seed extracts using brine shrimp cytotoxicity assay, determined the bio efficiency of powdered and capsulized C.tiglium (CCT) seeds as anthelminthic through percent efficacy and assess the cost of deworming native chickens and Muscovy duck with C. tiglium seeds compared to commercial anthelmintic. Thirty-six free range native chickens (G. domestics) and thirty-six Muscovy ducks (C. mascbata) naturally infected with gastrointestinal parasites were independently used in this study The experimental birds were randomly distributed following a completely randomized design into four treatment groups (levamisole-niclosamide, 200mg, 300mg and 400 mg of capsulized C. tiglium seeds). Fecal egg count per gram was evaluated using me master technique during the pretreatment and at 3rd, 6th 9th and 12th day post treatment and subjected to analysis of variance.
The result on the percent efficacy of C. tiglium seeds on Ascaridia galli/Heterakis gallinarium on chickens (G. domesticus) at 200 mg and 400mg revealed highly effective on day twelve post treatment. The percent efficacy of tiglium seeds in Ascaridia galli Heterakis gallinarium in ducks (C. mascbata) showed to be effective at 300mg and 400mg post treatment.
The comparative cost analysis of the four treatments showed that the use of C. tiglium resulted in a lower cost compared to the commercial dewormed. The price of commercial anthelminthic was more costly compared to the cost of capsulized C. ugluan seeds on T4 (400mg CCT) by 89. 67 percent.
The results suggest the potential of Croton tiglium seeds as an alternative anthelmintic in native chickens (Gallus domestics) and Muscovy duck (Cairinia mascbata).).
