The experiment was conducted to evaluate the in-vitro efficacy of Philodendron grandipes K. Krause aqueous extract against Sarcoptes scabiei var canis. One hundred eighty (180) adult mites were collected from naturally infested dogs and distributed into treatments groups using a completely randomized design. The treatments used in the experiment are as follows Treatment 1- positive control (Ivermectin, 10 mg/ml). Treatment 2-negative control (distilled water), Treatment 3-25% Philodendron grandipes leaves and stem aqueous extract (PLSAE), Treatment 4-50% PLSAE, Treatment 5- 75% PLSAE and Treatment 6-100% PLSAE Thirty adult mites were exposed to each treatment for 6 hours, and the mortality rate was recorded every hour Miticidal efficacy of Philodendron grandipes K. Krause were assessed, and the results of the experimental study showed that 100% and 75% treatment concentrations of Philodendron grandipes K. Krause leaf and stem aqueous extract has comparable miticidal activity compared to the commercially available ectoparasiticide ivermectin. Based on the findings, Philodendron grandipes K. Krause leaf and stem aqueous extract, using a more concentrated solution, can be used as an alternative to treat canine sarcoptic mange.
