The study was conducted to determine the effect of different growth promoting substances on rooting of Petroleum nut (Pittosporum resineferum, Hemsl.). The effects of the different growth promoting substances were measured using percent survival, percent rooting, percent shooting, percent callusing, length of shoots and length of roots.
The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications per treatment. The cuttings were planted in a 2" x 2" x 6" perforated black polyethylene bags with 1:1 mixture of sand and rice hulls as the rooting media and placed at the improvised propagating chamber and sprayed with water. The experiment was maintained within 57 days and watering was done regularly.
The different growth promoting substances used in the study, 500 ppm IBA (T1), 1000 ppm IBA (T2), 500 ppm ANAA (T3), 1000 ppm ANAA (T4), 50% Honey (T5). 100% Honey (T6), 50% Coconut water (T7), 100% Coconut water (T8) have affected the root initiation of Petroleum nut.
Based on the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the different parameters showed significant differences except for the length of roots. Among the different root promoting substances applied for Petroleum nut stem cuttings. Pure coconut water was found best as growth promoting substance for Petroleum nut propagation using stem cuttings.
